A known Norton bug.......causing mail and browser problems... To find if Norton is causing the loss of Internet access, begin by turning off Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
To turn off your Norton product for testing purposes - Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
If you cannot Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, read Error: "You have insufficient privileges. . ." or "You do not have the necessary rights. . ." in Norton Internet Security 2004. - Click Options > Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
- If the Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall Options window opens, click Cancel.
- In the System Status window, click Security.
- Click Turn Off in the right column.
- Try to access the Internet. Did you access the Internet?
- Turn Security back on.
Follow steps 2-4 above. In step 5, click Turn On. - Do one of the following:
- If you did not get to the Internet after turning off Security, then go to the section "Cannot access the Internet with NIS disabled."
- If you did get to the Internet after turning off Security, then go to the next section, "Can access the Internet with NIS disabled."
