Enabling Save Password

Double click on icon for "My Computer."

Double click on icon for "Control Panel."

Double click on icon for "Network."

Your network Configuration control panel should appear. It should show Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP.  If it does not show "Client for Microsoft Networks" you need to add it. Adding the "Client for Microsoft Networks is what enables the "Save Password" box. It also creates an Icon for "Network Neighborhood" on the desktop.

Click on the "Add" button.

From the "Select Network Component Type" box choose "Client.

Click the "Add" button. It might then "Build a Database;" let it do that.

From the "Select Network Client" box choose "Microsoft," on the left "Client for Microsoft Networks" should be highlighted on the right.

Click "OK."

You will be prompted to restart your computer. Do so.

As it restarts, you will be asked to enter a password. Unless you want to password protect your entire computer, DO NOT add one. It will ask twice. Do not enter a password either time. If you do you will have to enter this password each time you start Windows.

Windows will open and the ability to save your password should be available.

If the steps outlined above did not sometimes the password file on your computer gets corrupted, to repair this:

Click the "Start" button

Click "Find"

Choose "Files or folders" and type in "*.pwl" (without the quotes)

This will find a file called "yourname.pwl" This name varies with each machine.

Right click on it and choose "Rename"

Rename the file to "yourname.pwx" Hit enter.

Close everything and reboot your computer.

A new password file will be created and hopefully you will now have the ability to save your password. If this still does not work, you will have to contact Microsoft for help.
