  1. LaBelle Heritage Museum Septemeber Program Meeting     TOWNSEND TO PRESENT PROGRAM ON RANCHING IN S W FLORIDA TO LA BELLE MUSEUM GROUP Dallas B. Townsend, Hendry County Extension Director and Extension Agent IV for many years, will kick off the LaBelle Heritage Museum’s 2010 – 2011 program year on Thursday, September 2, with a presentation on the History of Ranching in Southwest Florida at the museum’s meeting in the Commission Chambers of LaBelle City Hall at 481 West Hickpochee Avenue (State Road 80). Townsend, a member of the Felda pioneer Asa Barton Townsend family, graduated from LaBelle High School and received both his B. S. and M.S. from the University of Florida College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He is so well regarded by his peers that the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Center, housing the Hendry County Extension offices and the Hendry and Glades County SWCD offices, was named in his honor. The Dallas Townsend Term Professorship at the University of Florida College of Agriculture and Life Sciences was established in 2005 by his friends and former colleagues to honor his dedication and commitment to the field of agriculture. The public is welcome to attend all LaBelle Heritage Museum Program Meetings. A short business meeting will take place after the refreshment break following Dallas Townsend’s interesting presentation.
