STEWARDSHIP VISION STATEMENT

 

San Marco Parish is a Catholic community striving to be closer to God.  Our purpose is to build on the existing foundations to provide opportunities to develop prayer, hospitality, formation and service to our parish and the wider community.  We encourage the participation of each parishioner and warmly welcome all to support our parish sharing their time, talent, and treasure.

 

DIOCESAN STEWARDSHIP DAY: September 22, 2009 at St. Thomas Moore Parish in Sarasota.  The purpose of this day is to educate about the theology of stewardship and discipleship, along with practical applications which will construct stronger parish communities. Current Activities of the Stewardship Committee have included:

-         Hosting & organizing the Parish Ministry Fair

-         Organizing hospitality coffees held once a month for the Parish and visitors

-         Hosting a welcoming event for all newcomers to our Parish

-         Assisting community outreach projects

-         Attend the Diocesan Stewardship Day & other workshops to develop a deeper sense & understanding of Stewardship in the Parish

 

 

Stewardship as defined according to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, in the pastoral letter outline three convictions on stewardship:

 

1)      "Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision carried out in action to be followers of Jesus Christ no matter the cost to themselves.

2)      Beginning in conversion, change of mind and heart, this commitment is expressed not in a single action, not even in a number of actions over a period of time, but in an entire way of life.  It means committing one's very self to the Lord.

3)      Stewardship is an expression of discipleship, with the power to change how we understand and live out our lives.

 

Disciples who practice stewardship recognize God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and are and will be.  They are deeply aware of the truth that "The Lord's are the Earth and it's fullness, the world and those who dwell in it" Psalm 24:1  They know themselves to be recipients and caretakers of God's many gifts.  They are grateful for what they have received and eager to cultivate their gifts out of love for God and one another"

STEWARDSHIP PRAYER

 

Almighty and ever-faithful Lord,

Gratefully acknowledging your mercy and humbly admitting our need,

We pledge our trust in you and each other.

 Filled with desire, we respond to your call for discipleship by shaping

Our lives in imitation with Christ.

We profess that the call requires us to be stewards of your gifts.

As stewards, we receive your gifts gratefully, cherish and tend them

Iin a responsible manner, share them in practice and love with others,

And return them with increase to the Lord.

We pledge to our ongoing formation as stewards and our responsibility to call others to that same endeavor.  Almighty and ever-faithful God, it is our fervent hope and prayer that you who have begun this good work in us will bring it to fulfillment in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
